this was one of my favourite pieces from the Biennial auction.
On the drawing room website, a huge number of contemporary artists who had contributed specially made works to be sold to the highest bidders for the Biennial.

anna barriball, tim knowles, louise hopkins, tacita dean,
if i had some spare money lying around i'd have bid.all these artists I've become more familiar with and have wondered if I could start recognising their work.
I like the simplicity, it might be complicated enough so it might be bordering on the pretentious to some but they're striking images. Wonder when I'll get over my black and white phase though. Last term it was squares and yellow lines.

some ones just looked like they were taking the mickey.
sand on paper? not a piece of sandpaper surely..
this bugged me the most but was the one I kept coming back to out of intrigue. where they really being outrageously and lazy and tongue-in-cheek? did it even matter as there's something nostalgic, representative and comfortingly familiar about this piece. beaches, tiles, family workshops and DIY.
people i'll be looking up susan morris
interesting to compare the range of works in 2009 biennale, seems to be more colour/boldness there and seeing how artists have interpreted the brief this time as lots have contributed pieces to bothhttps://drawingroom.org.uk/drawingbiennial2015
